Dear Friends,
image from hairstyle.com
ch advised us that she has opened her shop in the posh neighbourhood of Aoyama in Tokyo.
Since she is a skin specialist, I guess given the timing of the natural forces of the 5th Major Qi Period (Dryness and Cold), it would appear her timing is impeccable, as this the environment that the Lung System will be subjected to bigger load. The Lung System connects with the skin externally.
In posting Your growth/reproductive pattern, we discussed the natural cycles of women, to recap :
- 1×7=7 yr : permanent teeth replacing primary teeth, hairs getting longer,
- 2×7=14 yr : arrival of “sex hormone”, commencement of periods, can have pregnancy, (note too late arrival of this is symptom of Qi deficiency, esp kidney system),
- 3×7=21 yr : wisdom tooths appear and grow to maximum,
- 4×7=28 yr : physically at her peak, hair at best condition, best health,
- 5×7=35 yr : face starting to lose luster, hair start dropping,
- 6×7=42 yr : facial texture losing overall luster, white hair appearing (ladies, take note),
- 7×7=49 yr : end phase of “sex hormones”, pregnancy very difficult,
From above, from 5×7 onwards, the face starts to lose luster. Sorry for the bad news.
ch, you will never run out of clients !
When we are born, we inherited the vital Qi from our parents (先天之气,”xian tian zhi qi”). This is given and we have to make good the treasure we inherited. If we consider the complexity that make up a human being, this vital Qi is incredible, next to miracle. It is the seed of “fire” that we inherit from our parents.
Now, this parental vital Qi alone is not enough to make us healthy, we need the continuos supply of “nutrients” (后天之气, “hou tian zhi qi”). 后天之气 enables us to keep the original “fire” burning brightly.
后天之气 (“hou tian zhi qi” ) is more than just food we eat, it also includes the water we drink and the air we breath (in addition to the way we behave).
Therefore,
- if we have good appetite but not digest well, that only put more load to the body to get rid of the waste,
- if we breath ok but too shallowy, that’s not good either etc
- if we sleep during daylight and awake throughout the night, that’s not good.
Now back to the critical issue of lost of facial luster. What causes it ?
- From TCM’s perspective, the Yang Meridians are channels of Yang energy, which is critical for all sorts of activities (i.e. they are dynamic energy). You can think of Yang Meridians as Daylight as opposed to Yin Meridians which are equivalent to Night.
- For women, on average, after 5×7, the Yang energy levels in the Yang Meridians start to decline.
- The decline is most obvious in the face because the face is the meeting place of all the Yang Meridians.
Of all the Yang Meridians, the Stomach Meridian (pairing with Lung Meridian) has the most Yang energy.
Therefore keeping a free-flowing and healthy Stomach Meridian will enhance the Yang energy level in it, the result is a longer lasting facial luster, which I guess many have invested heavily to uphold. (since it is also related to Lung Meridian, the skin overall will be affected).
Will return later on some of the key exercises the invigorate the Stomach Meridian.
Will be back.

ch, congrats on the opening of your new shop. Must be very exciting !
xy2, this article is much awaited. More so during bad times, tips on improving beauty with minimal spending
is so essential.
I was told that the yoga headstand reverses gravity force on one’s body, hence if practised regularly gives the face a natural facial lift treatment ! Does this improvise the Stomach, Lung meridian ?
Wow great CH! No wonder you got not much time to write here! You must be very busy with your shop.
Yes, I would be your faithful customer if you open a branch in Spore!
Congratulations!
While reading the following article, I recalled xy2 talks about “spring” being a time all nature strive to grow (green shoots, flowerings, etc)
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125356566517528879.html?mod=yhoofront
This is an interesting article, as the graphs implied that more teenagers were not able to “control” and hence got January babies. Or it could be aided due to more Proms (High School parties) scheduled at that time after graduation, before summer holidays.
I once asked in this forum, after xy2′s comment, if “spring = strive for growth” means more winter babies at northern hemisphere in 4-season countries. Looks like I was partially right
The graphs are interesting, as it shows prime months of Jan (happens in spring holiday) and May (happens in summer holiday), pretty much in line with prime time company workers take their time off from work.
For those of you who has older/teenage girls, next time you may want to watchout during spring time… as for whether Jan babies are more tend to be underachievers – well since my kids are Jan, we will hope it’s wrong but will know many decades later
xy2 , thanks for the free advertising.
Clients from all over the world are welcomed!
ct, a very interesting article. I think I myself am a winter baby and so is xy2 (we discovered way back that we share the same b/day, although I am much younger!!!). Does xy2 look like an underachiever to you?
I always thought babies/people born at the end of the year (the last 3 months) are always smarter!!
xy2, we are now in the antiaging age, so I think the numbers should be multiples of 10, maybe?
About lack of sex hormones, while there are women looking much younger than their age, we are seeing also more and more women suffering from menopausal symptoms around mid-30s and fertility dropping by the same time. Food, stress? You name it.
Certainly those multiples charter the natural course of things. With the right kind of food (protein and less fat), the right kind of care (like avoiding too much sun), and all the beauty products we can get our hands on, it has certainly helped delayed the process a bit.
Good luck, ladies. Don’t forget to take care of your skin!
mf:
as discussed in the posting, head is the concentration of all Yang Meridians, so head-stand, correctly done, will certainly help.
Though it has to be practised with great care as it put a lot of stress on the neck (if incorrectly done) and not all are suitable.
A less vigorous way is to kneel down, buttock sitting on back of legs, both hands in front and on the side supporting and bending forward until the forehead gently hitting the floor (pls practise on carpet or matt).
in that crouching position, continue to gently “knock” the foreward against the floor for a while, then bring both hands backward and rest the hands on top of the up-facing soles, pulling in the chin towards the knees and keep in that crouching position for a while. Relax and do the cobra pose. Repeat above couple of times in the morning.
To further agitate the Yang Meridians :
1. trim your finger nails, use tip of fingers to gently strike the face, from fore-head and downward on both sides of nose and further down. Do this for couple of minutes a few times a day. (if you are keeping long finger nails, invent aother way to do this),
2. use comb with wide spacing and round smooth teeth to “comb” your hair, with tip of the teeth touching the scalp. Comb from front to back of neck, from middle and moving towards the sides right close to the ears. Repeat on other half of the head.
Do this for a few minutes, adjust strength to suit your comfort.
Notice that :
a. if hair drops, doesn’t matter much, if they drop, they are going to drop anyway, these are the less healthy hair, new hair will grow with your combing exercise,
b. do not wash your hair right after this exercise.
Do this couple of times a day.
Look around and see whether you can find some people who may habitually spend more time combing their hair each day. See whether there is any difference.
ch, ct :
I find the stats on winter babies a strange one indeed.
It is not a good topic to make research or comment on, as you can cut it anyway you want and come up with another conclusion.
Interpretation on stats like these can be very dangerous and maybe meanningless.
Say the color green. Some people cannot see “green”, we call them color-blind. Actually “green” is our interpretation, for all we know, only we know what “green” is, for there is no way I can tell whether others are seeing the same thing (though they might be able to differetiate it from other “colors”).
In all likelihood, each will be seeing a slightly different type of green, as just seeing with different glasses.
Everyday that the sun rises from the East, it is a good day. Just like every flight landing, no matter how rough, is a good landing.
Man created some socioeconomic and educational systems that may not be suitable to some people, they may be underachievers under those man-made systems, but they may excel under a different one.
The Diamond Sutra reminds us :
Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
“一切有为法,
如梦幻泡影,
如露亦如电,
应作如是观”
As someone brought it up in this topic, I have silly question about menapause, may be one of you doctors can answer.
I learned that in biology class that all females are born with all eggs that you have for life. Each month one is released until they are exhausted as age catches up, and then there’s menapause. I am not sure but guess that as long as there’s an egg waiting to be released, there’ll be hormone along with it, so there’ll be no menapause, yet?
If this guess is true, does it mean those eggs delayed getting released, then the menapause age will be delayed? e.g. for those who have many kids (each child takes 10periods (+ 6-12mths of nursing) away), or those who take pills to prevent or reduce menstruation to few times per year, will they have menapause at older age?
Sorry for asking this as I am not sure it makes sense, but wonder if this guess hold true. I used to like Biology, but did not really take Medicine. So, always like to ask questions around physiology
Ct,
That’s good logics. These things probably work in their mysterious ways.
Each average baby girl is born with abt 400K gametes(eggs) which stop develop upo birth until about 2×7 and thereafter until about 7×7.
Simple maths and we know that only about 10% of the gametes will make it into eggs and get released, provided one is quite healthy.
As these gametes are carried and stored in the body, they are subjected all sorts of risks (from food/drink, sicknesses and other internal/external risks including natural radiation).
Older eggs therefore carry higher risks of damages (to genes in particular) due to these risk factors and hence the traditional wisdom of having babies as early possible. Of course most people are less aware of these things until these become personal problem.
So delaying release of eggs such as taking hormone (which means disrupting body’s natural cycle) is not a great idea, especially taking testoterone to boost energy level around or after menopause, it will induce growth energy elsewhere, at the wrong place and at the wrong time.
So try keeping a Harmonius Qi cycle, if this difficult in modern life, then only the mind remains, for we have discussed :
“… It doesn’t matter whether it is the wind or the flag that moves, it is the mind that moves…”
Note:
The perfect natural life cycle lasts about 120 yrs, it is usually much shorter due to exposure to internal/exteral risk factors.
Most people are under the wrong impression that they can lengthen their life-span. What they are actually doing is to reduce risk factors.
Bear in mind that internal environment includes the “mind”, so it is not all about material environment.
There is of course other ways to look at time or rather space-time and how you increase that intensity of space-time than a pure one-dimensional time, which can be quite meaningless as it is.
Have fun.
Thanks for all the info discussed. Very informative & interesting topics not found anywhere that I have read.
CH, do you have a website of your clinic?
I’m in the midst of deliberating whether it’s better for my company to be acquired 100% or go listing. Any advice from all of you?
wah, yl, you want our advice about ur baby ?
surely no one knows better than you do. ur passion is the answer.
xy2, combing the hair…yeap I do that sometimes, mainly because hair combing increases blood circulation to the scalp and therefore keeps the hair healthy. Gets the natural oil down the length of my hair, that is all., but it is true that in the old times when girls and women used to keep long hair and they did not live such hectic lifestyles, they spent a lot more time combing and brushing their hair. It was almost a past time.
About external factors and since we are on the topic of skin. All this antiaging stuff, it is all about prevention. For the skin, the biggest aging factor is ultraviolet radiation. Those of you who live in the tropics, beware.
We are now trying to educate those who want to keep their skin beautiful to not only perform treatments to remove the damage done by the sun, but also to prevent further damage to the skin. Those of you with young pretty daughters, start now.
Remember our grandmas used to wear those white powder on their faces and they told us girls to stay out of the sun?
They know better. Those white powder work as sunscreens and by telling us to stay out of the sun, they are helping us keep young and beautiful!!
Want to beat xy2′s X7 formula and stay young forever?
Here is one way!
woh…woh… great tips….but too late….I need a skin transplant! I’m the outdoor type, not really by choice but a way of life, being raised up in a kampung, running around a landed property….
I combed my scalp as described above to relieve scalp itch. Good that it’s beneficial for other matters too.
Thanks MF for your advice….hmmm…..my passion….to retire or not….. since I also started on some shares playing in last downturn season, maybe it would be fun to play with my own shares. Sell when price is good & buy back all in times of recession & then sell back again when times pick up.
A retiree circulated his advice about retiring after 10 yrs into retirement – maybe xy2 should start a posting on this. Just a gist of it …
4 pre-conditions to fulfill:
Your children are financially independent (e.g. they got jobs),
You have zero liability (all your borrowings are paid up),
You have enough savings to support your lifestyle for the rest of
your life,
AND most importantly,
You know what you would be doing during your retirement.
DO NOT retire till you meet ALL 4 Pre-Conditions. And of course you
should not retire if you enjoy working and are getting paid for it!
The answers to the 4 pre-conditions:
1. No
2. No
3. No.
4. Errr….what I gonna do after retirement- hang out?
Ooops….not qualified to retire….
