Dear Friends,

There is immediate affinity with Michael Jackson for those of us who have grown with him through the same time-space. (re space-time, read posting Walking with Empress Cixi (象) ).
Personally I like mostly his pre-Thriller numbers like:
- Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough,
- Off The Wall
- Beat It,
- Billie Jeans
One has to respect his ability to connect with his audience and his influence on Pop music. His energy level is simply boundless.
In the summer of 1992, in his UK tour at Wembly Stadium, the opening scene was :
- MJ jumped up from below the stage floor to stand still on stage, with sun glasses, motionless ==> hysteria from the crowd,
- after 1 minute, MJ removes his sun glasses, the crowd totally went wild,
- MJ has done nothing yet, not uttering a single word, the crowd was already exhausted.
- that’s the power of his connectivity.
I have no doubt that MJ’s planned 50 shows in London would have been just as hysterical.
MJ was borned on Aug 29, 1958. It was 戊戌年 (“Wu-xu Year”).
- As you may recall, any year of 戊 (“wu”) is donimated by Strong Heat (as in the case of 2008, being a 戊子年 (“wu-zi Year)).
- However, in 1958, the Strong Heat of 戊 was accompanied by two major sub-forces, Cold Water and Damp Earth.
- Aug 29 falls in the the 4th Major Qi Period of that year, which was subjected to two additional sub-forces of Dampness and Windiness.
MJ’s Strong Heat was to a large extent neutralised by Colder Water. He managed to get through the Strong Heat with Dryness of 2008.
Take a look at the forces in play in June 2009 versus MJ’s Personal Cosmic Orientation :
MJ’s PCO 2009 June
- Cold Water Damp Earth
- Wind Wood Damp Earth
- Strong Heat Damp Earth (Lesser)
- Damp Earth Strong Heat
- Damp Earth Cold Water
Out of 5 forces, MJ resonated with 4 of them, driven mainly by Strong Heat and Damp Earth, a very uncomfortable environment. In fact he resonated with all the 5 external forces at play in June 2009. (夏至, “xia-zhi”, the arrival of the Peak Summer, fell on June 21).
-
The Cold Water force has helped to hold in check the Strong Heat element in his body, you get the clearest glimpse of this with his boundless energy on stage, who was otherwise a rather reserved person back stage.
-
This Cold Water, though is blocked by Damp Earth. When Damp Earth force is too strong, it over-blocked the Cold Water which reduces its ability to suppress the Strong Heat. It also didn’t help as his skin was getting paler. Colour Black is Water and would have provided additional check on the Strong Heat.
-
Strong Heat disturbs the Heart system and one of the immediate effects are disturbed mind and loss of sleep. 天王补心丹 (“tian wang bu xin dan”) might have come handy for some of the symptoms. (of course it is dangerous to jump to conclusion without knowing more detail of his actual situation, though this could have been helpful).
-
The name “天王补心丹” incidentally means “Heart Remedy for the King” or “The King of Heart Remedy”. (The Heart in TCM typically refers to the Mind, rather than the physical heart itself).
MJ’s personal doctor might have erred and wrong in injecting powerful anaesthetic propofol to help him sleep. Had his doctor understand a bit more about the root cause of his inability to sleep, then may be the approach and outcome might be very different.
The King of Pop, whichever the outcome, will remain the King for a long time.
Note: I was given a chance to go watch MJ live at Wembly Stadium in 1992. Some how I turned down the offer. That’s the magic of 缘份 (“yuan-fen”).

Thank you so much Xiaoyao2 for inserting this MJ’s youtube. Had nice time watching it. Before his death, I never like to watch his concerts. Now, after his death, then my interest is aroused.
Find his dance rhythm, very forceful & in sync. Enjoyed it, need a lot of strength, energy. No wonder he needs the drugs- to power on.
I find some of his dance movement, a bit distasteful- moving his abdomen up & down & often holding his groin/crotch. It’s like a bad habit, to ensure his covering is still in place.
Maybe the crowd was cheering wilding at his yellow underwear.
He’s got some great moving songs like Human Nature, Heal the World. And crisp signature dance moves. The price of intense fame or price of being too gifted, hugely talented like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe – often end up in loneliness. If only he could just do ONE, “This Is It” concert as a final curtain call.
All of a sudden, the next generation – my kids became hugely interested and started playing his music on the piano. MJ’s music will live on.
His dance style might replace the Aerobic dance classes, as a form of good exercise.
I would be interested to take up these classes for exercise & fun! Hehehe….
A couple of my colleagues had the privilege of seeing him as a client while he was in Tokyo on his concerts or visits.
I will not comment on what is controversial. Suffice it to say that many talented people are unfortunate in that they are wonderful, kind hearted people, but maybe because they are nice people, many around them take advantage of them.
Unlike many of us who can decide what we want to eat or where we want to go tomorrow, they are unable to do so. Their lives are decided by others because for one MJ, a few hundred people’s livelihood depend on it.
They have to perform even when they do not feel like it physically or mentally, because many people around them need to have a job, and show business needs to move on. Many people have a stake around him. The cake must be sold when hot and fresh from the oven; we cannot wait.
Over the years, I had the privilege of having met some of these talented people as clients (be it sumo, wrestling, TV star, musician etc). They are wonderful people when you meet them in person, but they cannot decide who they want to meet and what they want to do or how they want to schedule their shows. Plus when they are on camera, they need to put up an invincible face, an act, a show for the people who paid them to be up there.
So guess what happens after a few years??? You develop some “problems”, visible or invisible; like sleep problems, physical pain etc. but you have to keep that from the public eye and still present the super, dynamic star image.
I guess that is what happened to MJ and then things went wrong.
MJ and his fans, they are one. For MJ’s problem was a result of his fans and those around them.
I have some MJ CDs, so in one sense I am a tiny part of the source of his problem (and fame).
Therefore it is said : “he is, because we are”.
Did I beat you all to the MJ movie- ‘This is it’? Just saw it this evening at 7.30pm.
Wow, at 50 yrs old, he can still move so flexibly & dance to every beat of the music. His dancers panted while he could still hold his breath normally. Awesome!
This movie really shows his creativity & real talent with the music, enabling him to advise his music crew & show director. Very hands on, involved heavily with decision making & selection of performers.
YL, looks like you are his biggest fan among us all here in this blog ! I’ll wait until it gets shown on TV or downloadable from the net.
YL, ever wonder how he got all the energy to do all that dancing?
You are right, the others were panting but he could still do it all. Do you think that is all natural?
Things are not what they seem!
In a way, all his fans contributed to his death in one way or another.
We all wanted the Michael in his early days who could dance and jump for hours in a supernatural way. But at 50 it is not so easy, even the most fit athlete will have problems. None of us wants to see a Michael with a bald or with wrinkles or with a middle age pouch or walking with a walking stick or with backache. At least not in front of any of us.
We all know what an average 50 year old man is like, but we want Michael to be different. He is our icon.
So what does Michael do? He is just like all of us, he cannot stop the aging process. But for the few hours he is on stage, he has to try his best to show the world that he is still the same old Michael. He works very hard to do that, sometimes a bit too hard, and then we know the rest of the story.
