Dear Friends,

As discussed before, we are all subjected to the influence of Cosmic Forces, and therefore our well being.
Our immediate environment changes according to the rhythm of the 24 Jie-Qi as per posting Rhythm of Great Mother Earth (24 节气).
In addition, the annual basic rhythmic 24 Jie-Qi’s are also subjected to the broader cosmic forces in a 60-year cycle manner as discussed in past postings.
- The 24 Jie-Qi’s each year therefore possess different underlying tones.
- For this year, it is one of “wetness and coldness“.
We are susceptible to sicknesses when our internal body rhythm is out-of-sync, i.e. :
- ahead of the external 24 Jie-Qi rhythm, or
- behind the external 24 Jie-Qi rhythm.
To be in-step with the external environmental rhythm is therefore critical to health (notice people fall sick easily when traveling to a place with significant time and/or altitude/latitude difference, their bodies fail to keep pace).
Note that the external 24 Jie-Qi rhythm itself is subjected to external cosmic forces, so it is not constant each year.
-
Our Lung system performs the critical function of synchronizing our internal rhythm with that of the dynamic external rhythm, which donimates.
The lungs are housed in the rib-cage, with “24″ ribs, matching the 24 Jie-Qi number. So this is the first magic number “24″.
There are 3 major joints in each of our 4 limbs, totaling 12 joints. Each joint is made of 2 surfaces, correspond to 2 Jie-Qi in each month. (notice a pair of Jie-Qi consists of “节气” (Jieqi”) and “中气” (Zhongqi) as per posting Chinese calendar : Never Ending Story). This is second magic number “24″.
Any wonder why for a joint sensitive person (articular rheumatism), he/she can beat the state-of-the-art weather forecast ? If he/she say it is not raining, then it is not raining in his/her area, nevermind what the weather forecast says. Don’t bet your money against him/her.
Or when you are panic, or before a mother-of-all speech, take a few deep breaths, they will help you to get back your rhythm and therefore calm. (restoring your disturbed Qi).
Keep your lung system healthy, especially around the change-over day of Jie-Qi. It is your cosmic rhythm synchronizer.
* The next Jie-Qi change-over is 惊蛰 (“Jing zhe”) on Mar 5, 2009. See posting 驚蛰, Thunder and Off we go

last year’s jing zhe was 3/5, and so is this year. Did I see wrongly?
ct,
yes, both last year and this year’s Jing Zhe falls on Mar 5.
after Jing Zhe, all things are off to a new start, awakening from the Winter hibernation.
As per posting “Chinese calendar : Never Ending Story “, you find that 24 Jie Qi system is very accurate in locating the position of the earth vs the Sun, i.e. it is a Solar System, this is closer to the Gregorian Calendar .
On the other hand, the Lunar System, which is based on the position of the Moon vs the Earth, while it is very accurate in describing the Moon cycles around the earth, it is less precise in describing the position of the Earth vs the Sun. Therefore we have the adjustment via Leap-Year and Leap-Month mechanism.
It does not mean Lunar system is not practical, for instance, Lunar system is the most accurate in predicting high and low tide. The are also other life phenomena that are associated with the force of Moon on the Earth. These we can observe all around us, including our body response.
Hope above clarifies.
As per posting “雨水 (”Yu Shui”) : 2nd Jie Qi”, due the the tender Yang Qi, the weather is somewhat erratic over this period.
It means the external environment is subject to more swings and less stable.
There is extra stress to our internal Qi to be in-step with this rapidly changing external environment.
Take some deep breadths each morning in the open. Stretch both arms wide open while breathing in, hold it for a moment, and then force out the air quickly initially through the mouth (go ahead to make some gushing out noise and pushing out both arms in front of the chest simultaneously) and then let it drain out completely from the lungs. (note you may experience some dizziness in the begining, should improve over time of practise).
At night before sleeping, while lying on the bed, rub one of your palm over the abdomen/lower chest area gently in a big circular motion, starting from just below navel, to the left of stomach, up to the sternum in the middle, down to right of stomach and then back to below navel. Repeat 28 times for women and 32 times for men.
Above exercise to help smooth the Harmonious Motion for your Internal Qi.
