Dear Friends,

In posting 春分 (chun fen) : beginning of 2nd Major Qi Period, we discussed the characteristics of this period for 2008, which runs from Mar 20 to May 21, 2008. I will address the 3rd Major Qi Period in coming postings.

By next Monday, May 5, 2008, it is 立夏 (Li xia) and we will be entering the Summer season which lasts until Aug 7, 2008. (So you see Beijing Summer Olympic actually starts the day after 立秋 (li qiu), which signifies the condition of Autumn has been established in 2008 in Chinese calendar. It is not in the “pure summer”).

  • 立夏 (Li xia), by definition, means the foundation/condition for the “summer phase” has been established. We see everywhere shades of “夏象” (summer phase), with 春象 (spring phase) fading slowly into the back and becomes invisible as we move forward. The Yang energy is about 70% above the ground level and continues to ascend towards the peak of summer.

Summer season consists of the following 6 Minor Qi Periods (each about 2 weeks) :

  • 立夏, 夏滿, 芒種, 夏至, 小暑, 大暑 (夏滿芒夏二暑連).
  • (Li xia, Xia man, Mang zhong, Xia zhi, Xiao shu. Da Shu)

I have addressed the general characteristics of Summer in Universal Four Seasons.

Given 2008 is Stronger Fire with Dryness Characterisitcs, this “heat symptoms” will continue to escalate quite strongly in the 3rd Major Qi Period (May 21 to July 22, 2008). Note that the “Cosmic heat characteristics” are more than just temperature, which is only one of the expressions of heat.

  • In matters of human body cosmic resonance, the Heart System will receive the full load in this coming Summer. The “heart” will “move” more vigorously.
  • We will witness increasing incidence of heart disorders, sleeping problems, increased anxiety level, stroke and potential sudden outbreak of fierst epidemics and more deadly storms in the weather.

That’s why we see the emotions are high and people are easily agitated. That’s why even the Monks in red are “dancing” and punching their fists in the street. They can’t keep their cool irrespective of years of trainning, it is the karma of cosmic forces. Kids are especially prone to “heat”, while older folks are more prone to “heat”’s effects on the heart-system.

  • So by 立夏 (li xia), let the body expresses itself and don’t try to cage it. It wants to go out. It wants to meet the sun. It wants to burn energy. It wants to have fun. Avoid getting angry. Sleep late and get up early (relatively). Across the land, all things are full of live, energy and activities.

I have addressed the coming summer in “What’s in store for the coming Summer”. So enjoy your coming summer while take note of its characteristics in 2008.

p/s : We are currently in the last Minor Qi Period of Spring, which is 谷雨(Gu yu). It is the mild rainny season essential for the farmers to have good harvest later in the year.

  1. Eh, what happened to the previous photo? Hahaha! :) It even set me thinking about the cameraman who focused at such a corner. It was thought provoking! Was it off focus or perfectly aimed? It was neat & perfect! Anyway, the sunflowers are really open & cheerful. Hehehe….

  2. We are definitely having lots of rain this spring in Japan….it is spring rain very other day, followed by bright sunny skies and temperatures up to 25 deg C. I can see my plants shooting up really fast with lots of green leaves. A very refreshing sight for my eyes in the morning. So can we expect a good harvest in autumn this year? Including the stock market??? (the latter may be a bit tricky??)

  3. ch:
the “heat” builds up quite quickly from 2nd Major Qi Period onwards, and with the seasonal rain, you see accelerated growth. This will continue into the 3rd Major Qi Period with stronger “heat’ intensity. With this heat it will create storms and it is very likely to see unusual flooding in the 4th Major Qi Period (July 22 to Sept 20) and wild fire in other regions. It then turns into a revenge of the dry spell by mid Sept to mid Nov before a relatively dry winter.

Stock mkt will continue to be volatile, as a result of investors influenced by excess “heat” and losing their calm. The mood will be generally more upbeat in the 3rd Major Qi Period (May 22 to July 21) and get into a more depressed state in late summer as the bodies face digestive problems before stabilising in the winter.
The digestive power of the body remains weak in 2009. So we are likely to see a slow recovery from the excesses of the superbull mkts from 2003-2007.

So you hv plenty of chance to collect many blue chips at great value over the next 6-12 months.

Stay cool and take more holidays.

  4. Thanks for putting back that photo! :)

You see how the blue in the sky is mirrored in the horizon & tapers off onto the beach, only to be affirmed on that swimwear. The white pearly beach contrasts with the bronze body. All the items in the picture have 1 thing in common- soft & smooth. There is not a hard object captured. All different kinds of softness which draws the viewer to want to step into the picture. The softness of the cloud against the softness of the body & swimwear. The soft water surface against the soft sandy beach. Hmmmm……makes me want to plan for a holiday at the beach. Maybe charter a yacht to Phuket & Phi Phi Island……how nice….I’m dreaming already! Errr….better get back to work! Hahaha!

In S’pore last night, temp already 27 deg! How nice to have daytime temp of 25 deg! Our daytime temp is already hitting 34 to 35deg. Felt like in a microwave oven & with the sun beating relentlessly down on our already irritated skin. Wearing down to the minimum even in aircon office. Pity those executives in shirt, tie & long pants!

My skin is fast reacting to the heat. Skin around neck, chest, back & FACE also getting irritated! I know there are pills to take to prevent itch but I don’t want to take medicine- have pity on my liver. Only relying on creams & fruits.

Just an unconscious scratch while working at my PC will cause red bright spots esp on my chest & face, really shocked me.

Hi Xiaoyao2 & CH, any tips to help me? Any acupoints to press to relieve itch? :)

  5. YL :
best effect by acupuncture. anyway, try acupressure on below acupoints :
    1. Quchi acupoint : press the acupoint at the end of the transverse cubital crease when u flexed your elbow,

    2. Fengshi acupoint : stand straight, the point at the tip of your middle finger by the side of your upper leg(on the lateral side). tap using border of your fist.

    3. Xuehai acupoint : 2 inch above the mediosuperior border of the patella. press using thumb or equivalent.

    4. the 2 inch line from the border of the web, between the big and second toe. use thumb to press and push outward towards border of web.(i.e. from Taichong acupt (as per 7X7 article) to border of web).

    5. Sanyingjiao acupoint : mentioned in 7X7. (optional)

    6. in the ear, the depression at the Y-branch in the upper half of the ear. about 0.5 inch directly below top of the ear. press using fore-finger and thumb, like a clip. (optional)

    Extra notes :
    1. avoid spicy foods, onions, garlic, sea foods,
    2. drink self-cooked chrysantinum tea with minimum sugar.
    3. No direct wind blowing at yourself.

In addition, you should practise the Twin Brothers acupoints foor good health on a regular basis. Above skin reaction is just external symptoms. The trigger might be your air-con is too strong and too dry !

    Hope above helps.

  6. Thanks Xiaoyao2!

Wow, so many acupoints to press & really those terms used, show that my biology, all koyak already- give back to teacher! Now the trick is to search for those points. Anyway, it won’t be far off, since it’s all on the body parts & specified. So, if I’m in doubt, I’ll just press all possible points, sure hit some right ones! Hehehe…:)

I know the terms elbow, leg, toes & ear but…errr sorry, very embarrassing, where is patella, huh? Sounds like shoulder blade. I can press the whole shoulder.

I like spicy foods, onions, garlic, sea foods, so looks like not much help for my skin…. :( Maybe for the sake of my face, I can reduce spicy food & sea food but onions & garlic are good for the immune system, how to avoid?

Hope the acupoint pressure can make up for the above food! :)

  7. Just now when replying, I didn’t see your point 3 & more advise below it.

So hot, off course I have the fan blowing at my face at home & car air cond. Ok, this I can avoid for the sake of my face!

Yes, I’ve been practising your Twin Bros! You are right about the aircond being too dry! Now so hot, so most of the time in aircond, so the skin gets very dry compared with 2 wks ago, when we can still be comfortable without aircon.

  8. patella is knee cap. it is triagular shape, with base on the top.
Xuehai acupoint is very critical to treat skin itchiness. Flexed your knee, it is 2 inches above the inner traingular point on the base.

avoid alcohol. at the mininum, avoid onion for the time being.

    Hv fun.

  9. Hehehe….patella is knee cap? Not in my wildest guess…:p Since it’s critical for skin itchiness, I better get it right!

Flex means bend, right? So, bend the knee, with my eyes looking vertically down at it, it’s the highest point, just after the round of my knee, right? You also state ‘on the base’, so is it under my thigh behind my knee? Directly under the highest point of my knee after the round curve of the bended knee? Hope it’s not & it’s just the top point at the end of my thigh before the round bend of the knee.

I don’t usually take alcohol except on airplane, so that’s easy to avoid. Ok-lor, avoid onion, anyway, I dislike it too.

Thanks Xiaoyao2, appreciate all your advise! Charge me next time, ok? Hehehe…:)

  10. google it for images if u are not sure.

  11. Yes! I got it. Google got good pictures of this Patella! :) Thanks!

Now, I more or less got a hang of your acupoints. It’s the area away from blood vessels, tendons & muscles. Usually unprotruding areas which are not touched & in protected zones. When pressed, will have a ’sour’ sensation & that’s how I know, I hit the right point. I got this Patella point before I find out from google about the base points by groping around it & felt the depressed softer points. :)

  12. google ‘xuehai”, not patella. same for other acupts.

  13. Wow great! I got the points correct! It’s all there in the google page! Your description of the location is perfect! Just that I need to know the landmark eg. Patella… will have to find time to ‘have fun’ with it! :)

  14. YL:
    if condition persists, add :

    1. Fengchi acupoint : behind the head, above the neck, 1 inch above back-hair-line and about 1.3 inch from mid-line. You will feel a depression, sensation when pressed;

    2. Neiting acupoint : between 2nd and 3rd toe, at the border of the web on the dorsal side (top side). This point is sensitive and should drain the heat away.

  15. Wow, Fengchi really feels great! Never knew got such a point hidden in the hair! :) Neiting also very nice & soothing to press!

I enjoyed pressing all the points you gave us even those not for me just to enjoy the nice feelings & to discover the routes in my body. I like this because it’s non offensive & invasive. I believe a gentle nudge will get things going along these connective lines.

Went for a whole day Seminar on Labour Day- 1 May. To keep myself from dozing to sleep during the many hrs of talk, I raised my legs to cross on my seat & place my elbows on the Xuehai pt & rubbed. It was so effective, just the right relaxing posture & elbows hit neatly on the Xuehai points. Also moved elbows along the meridian in the thigh & at same time, the raised up hands can press the acupoint at the ears. That really helped to stimulate my brain to absorb all those teachings!

Talks from veteran industrialist about how we should welcome foreigners into our community since now we have 1 in 3 of them. God’s law is always to welcome & treat visitors with love & justice, never to take advantage of their situation. About love with no strings attached- that’s God’s love. If we love with strings attached or with a hook, then we have not understood the love of God. Children of God must love, show kindness & favour with no strings attached- not expecting return of favour. Got many other interesting aspects touched, some things, that I didn’t even think about….
