Dear Friends,
I believe all of you still remember some of Newton’s Laws of Motion from your high-school physics.
Newton’s 1st Law of Motion states that :
An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
In scientific jargon, it is called the object’s “inertia”.
We can easily notice this inertia from our daily activities. We fall when we our feet trip over say a stone. The upper body continues to move forward (inertia) while our feet were suddenly stopped. So we fall.
As much as science has since advanced greatly and we have cleverly used inertia in all sorts of devices, one simple fact remains : “we do not know why inertia exists”, period.
I bring out this example to illustrate that there are many useful things exist out there in the universe for us to harvest, though scientifically we cannot explain them (there is probably no need for an explanation, which inevitably will be man-made anyway).
Modern science has been able to “explain” how many of the natural phenomena work with accurate scientific rules and equations, but it DOES NOT, OR CANNOT really explains why these phenomena exist in the first place. We should not get confused between these two separate issues.
This brings me to our topic of discussion : Meditation.

I believe all of you have read or even practise meditation as part of your investment in increasing the overall well-being of your physical and mental health.
Irrespective of the method or school of meditation practice you subscribe to, they all work more or less in the same way fundamentally.
We have looked at some of the fundamental issues regarding our environments in my earlier postings, Universal Four Seasons , The 5 Pointers: South, North, East, West & Middle etc.
For most of us, we live in modern cities, full of activities, excitements and distractions.
-
To summarize, our lives are simply “busy and noisy”.
Human body is a marvellous living entity with boundless energy in growing, adapting, defending, maintaining and healing itself.
Apart from appropriate foods and exercises, the body needs to be able to “pull itself together” and doing all the internal inspection/repairing on an on-going basis.
To do this, a “QUIET” internal environment is necessary.
Look at how a radio works. You fine-tune it, so that at the right frequency, it filters out all irrelevant noises.
In the same way, meditation helps us to fine-tune to our internal maintenance/surveillance system. Equally important, it helps the body to fine-tune to the cosmic energy, to be in-tuned with its rhythm. Synchronising our internal environment with external environment is an important aspect of good health.
So, give your body 30 minutes each day for meditation, it is the best treat you can offer your body. We take so much from the body each day, this quiet 30 minutes in a way is our appreciation for its contribution. We can’t keep withdrawing money from the bank, we need to deposit too!
Note meditation is not the cure-all type of magic. Please refer to “Health Pointers for Free” on general good practice towards good physical and mental health.
Have fun fine-tuning your internal cosmic energy.

i never realised that penguins look so much like meditating
they are very interesting pics for this topic. Good job of keeping the articles interesting…
Oh…so this is the other interpretation of the Christian’s “Quiet Time’ with God! Good view point! God made us as Body, Soul & Spirit. The Christian’s 30mins meditation communicates with the Spirit of God, whereas for those who do not know Jesus, do their own mental meditation to maintain general health. So, there is an internal circulation within the body, unlike the Christian who has a supernatural, divine spiritual exchange with the Spirit of God. Hmmm…..great insight! Have not thought of it like this. I’m getting to like your writings!
